This project was built around a
new conservatory. The ground level around the conservatory did not allow
room for the deck frame. The area could have been excavated, this
however would have been expensive. To save costs only the area outside
the patio doors was excavated, which then allowed for the deck to be
constructed one step up. This worked extremely well and added to the
character of the job. The deck boards were laid at angle and the corners
of the deck were angled. The balustrade was lower than standard to
provide bench seating. Standard height balustrade would have made the
deck feel smaller, a bit like a child's play pen.
